Mike McMorrow Auditorium Ribbon Cutting

On Thursday, November 21, just before the premiere of the high school's production of "Into the Woods," the Mike McMorrow family cut the ribbon to officially open the newly renovated auditorium named in his honor. Mike McMorrow was a valued and esteemed educator with Beech Grove City Schools for 30 years. Mr. McMorrow started his career with Beech Grove as a social studies teacher at Beech Grove Middle School. At the time of his death, he was the much loved vice principal of Beech Grove High School. The auditorium was first dedicated on September 6, 1994 in Mike’s honor. Also in his honor, the Mike McMorrow Memorial Scholarship Fund was established and continues to award scholarships to Beech Grove High School students through the Beech Grove Education Foundation. We applaud this great man who made, and continues to make, an impact on the lives of all of us at Beech Grove City Schools.

Mr. McMorrow's wife, Janet, and daughters, Debbie, Julie, and Amy and their families were present to cut the ribbon to celebrate the dedication of the newly renovated Mike McMorrow Auditorium.

Middle School and High School Art Classes Visit Newfields

Mrs. Jonee Sutton, BGMS art teacher, was given the opportunity to pair up with one of the high school's art teachers, Ms. Carey Tingle, on their Art Appreciation field trip to the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields last week. Eighteen of her students gained first hand viewing opportunities of famous artworks they have studied in class and opened eyes to multiple artistic styles, periods, and artifacts. The museum, located in Indianapolis, granted this opportunity at no cost and was a huge help in helping lift our students by giving them authentic learning opportunities. The art museum offers free admission every first Thursday from 4-9 pm and is a great family adventure.

Congratulations, Taylor!

From Mr. Goodman . . .

"For the first time in Beech Grove history, we have a student that made the Jr. High All State Band! Eighth grader Taylor Hines successfully auditioned and made a trombone spot!

The Jr. High All-State band takes around the top 100 musicians in the state grades 7-9 for the most prestigious honor a band student can have at that age! Taylor was the 6th out of 12 to be selected. The performance will be in Ft. Wayne on January 18th as part of the Indiana Music Educators Conference."

"Choose Love" Colts Mascot Program at BGMS

On Monday, December 2, our middle school students were treated to a wonderful program by the Colts Mascot ("Blue") - who is actually Mr. Trey Mock. The program, "Choose Love" conveyed a positive message of personal acceptance and encouragement to engage with others by showing respect, understanding, and compassion. Mr. Mock ("Blue") emphasized three important themes for the program:
1. Listen to each other
2. Once a day, find someone to help.
3. Don't waste time.
After the program, Trey took the time to speak with many of our students who wanted to chat about the program. Thanks, Trey and the Indianapolis Colts for bringing this wonderful program to Beech Grove Middle School!

Send Us Your Hornet Highlights!

We know there are many, many positive stories about Beech Grove City Schools involving our students, teachers, staff, and programs that we don't always hear. If you have a positive story to share, please send the details to Melody Stevens, Community Relations/Communications Director, at mstevens@bgcs.k12.in.us. We also encourage you to send stories that include personal achievements of your child such as: attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, performing in a community play, earning Girl Scout badges, serving as a volunteer in a non-profit organization, etc., etc. You might just see your story in a future edition of the "Hornet Blast" or in one of our local south side newspapers. We want to celebrate our Hornets!
