Our Students at FFA National Convention

From Mr. Bullock. . .

"On October 30, 31 and November 1, FFA members attended the National FFA Convention. Over 65,000 students were in attendance from all 50 states and Puerto Rico. Wednesday consisted of three of our high school FFA members and one graduate competing at the National Level in the Agriscience Fair. These four individuals won at the state level in their respective category and were selected from a pool of state winners nationwide. Only 12 are selected to compete in each category. Trent and Collin Eckstein received gold (a first for Beech Grove!) and Hannah Roe and Lillian Ferguson received silver. I am very proud of these four students for their commitment and endless hours beyond class time working on their projects.

On Wednesday evening of the Convention, the top six sellers from the Fall mum sale attended the Old Dominion concert. Thursday and Friday consisted of sessions, career and trade show and participating in the interactive Blue Room where members had the opportunity to talk with industry professionals and learn more about career offerings in the Ag industry."

4th Grade Super Readers

From Mrs. Johnson . . .

"I am so proud of these 4th graders!

They have been working so hard this semester with reading fluently and being confident.

Yesterday, they voted 'yes' to reading a play, "The Sun and the Wind."

They did such a GREAT job and I just had to take a photo to share!"

Save the Date!

Mrs. Mike McMorrow and her family will be cutting the ribbon on Thursday, November 21, at 6:50 p.m. to officially open the newly renovated Mike McMorrow Auditorium at Beech Grove High School. The ribbon cutting will take place just before the opening night of the Beech Grove Drama Department's production of "Into the Woods." We invite you to attend to see the newly renovated auditorium (a "sneak peek" of the auditorium is pictured below) and purchase a ticket and stay for our BGHS student production!

Thank you, BG Education Foundation!

The Beech Grove Education Foundation recently donated snack items and the money to purchase a new refrigerator for our marvelous Marching Hornets! One of the Band program's refrigerators recently quit working, so the Foundation stepped in to ensure our students had adequate space to keep their water and snacks fresh for practices and competitions. Good luck to our Marching Hornets in Saturday's State competition at Lucas Oil Stadium!

Some of our Band members are pictured below next to the new refrigerator.

COMMUNITY EVENTS AND PROGRAMS

Family Night at South Grove Intermediate School

Join the Beech Grove CDFC for Family Night at South Grove Intermediate School for Little Caesars pizza and fun activities. While your kiddos are enjoying the activities and game time, take advantage of our presentation on Youth Substance Misuse and Overdose Prevention (YSMOP). Far too often, we hear of youth who have been curious and experimented with alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs that have led them down the wrong path. Parents who are well educated on youth substance misuse are better informed on how to talk with their children about not getting involved in drugs.

If you haven't attended one of the YSMOP events this year, I encourage you to attend. CDFC partners and presenters, Health Ed Pros does a fabulous job at educating participants about SAMHSA's "Talk. They Hear You." program, and Community Health Network does a fabulous job at educating participants on overdose prevention and Naloxone training (free Naloxone kits are available to participants).

Family Night will take place at South Grove Intermediate School, 851 S 9th Avenue, Beech Grove, IN 46107, Wednesday, November 20th, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Event funded by Drug Free Marion County. RSVP appreciated at bgdrugfree@gmail.com.

Send Us Your Hornet Highlights!

We know there are many, many positive stories about Beech Grove City Schools involving our students, teachers, staff, and programs that we don't always hear. If you have a positive story to share, please send the details to Melody Stevens, Community Relations/Communications Director, at mstevens@bgcs.k12.in.us. We also encourage you to send stories that include personal achievements of your child such as: attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, performing in a community play, earning Girl Scout badges, serving as a volunteer in a non-profit organization, etc., etc. You might just see your story in a future edition of the "Hornet Blast" or in one of our local south side newspapers. We want to celebrate our Hornets!
