Cheerleading Camp and Awards

From Ms. Fangman . . .

Last week really was amazing! They do this sweet thing at camp that is called “Pin It Forward.” They go on to describe how cheerleaders work hard, lift people up, support each other and show compassion to their peers. Not only did we have three individuals selected by staff and peers but one person “pinned it forward” to the whole team because she said “there is no way she could pick one when the whole entire team had been so loving, kind and supportive.” It was a pretty awesome moment. Our high school cheerleaders are winners (well, we already knew that!):

Herky Team Award — this is voted on by the other teams at camp as the team with the most spirit, enthusiasm, and kindness

Most Improved — the instructors said that they started off strong and got even better as the week went on.

Top Team Chant — best performance in the “chant” category.

Our Teachers Take a Trip!

Several of our teachers, vice principals, and principals took a "journey" together as part of a recent professional development session to learn more about the four areas of Fountas and Pinnell, a comprehensive, systematic design for high-impact literacy instruction. "Flight Attendant" Rita Bass, Director of Elementary Education, took the participants to four locations (all while staying right here in Beech Grove!) to discuss: (1) Shared reading (2) Interactive reading (3) Guided groups and (4) Word work

This "travel" was all about learning more to assist our students to become better readers and successful in school! Who says you can't have a lot of fun while learning?

Send Us Your Hornet Highlights!

We know there are many, many positive stories about Beech Grove City Schools involving our students, teachers, staff, and programs that we don't always hear. If you have a positive story to share, please send the details to Melody Stevens, Community Relations/Communications Director, at mstevens@bgcs.k12.in.us. We also encourage you to send stories that include personal achievements of your child such as: attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, performing in a community play, earning Girl Scout badges, serving as a volunteer in a non-profit organization, etc., etc. You might just see your story in a future edition of the "Hornet Blast" or in one of our local south side newspapers. We want to celebrate our Hornets!
