Suicide is a major health concern for young people. Do you know the warning signs?
|
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, suicide is the second leading cause of death among people between 10 and 34. HCPS staff members are raising awareness about ways to prevent suicide and help reduce the stigma associated with suicide and mental health. The most important message? Suicides can be prevented and hope is possible for those in distress. Knowing the risk factors and warning signs for suicide can save lives.
The school division has caring, trained school-based mental health professionals available to discuss mental health concerns. HCPS school counselors, school psychologists and school social workers assess suicide risks and initiate support services and referrals to ensure access to mental health services.
- Learn more about risk factors and warning signs when the HCPS Department of Family and Community Engagement hosts a virtual "Signs of Suicide" workshop Nov. 15 at 6 p.m.

Did you know that students who miss two days of school a month are five times more likely to fall behind in reading, writing and math? HCPS encourages students to attend school all day, every day because attendance matters. Check out this short, animated video about why attendance is so important!

November is Family Engagement Month, an opportunity to recognize the importance of families and schools working together to build better futures for all children! Our busy Family and Community Engagement Department builds connections across Henrico County, including opportunities for your family.
There’s a weekly theme for Family Engagement Month, with opportunities to share how you engage with your learner and your school community. (Together, the themes spell out H-O-P-E.)
