Upcoming events

Candidates for your calendar:

  • HCPS College and Career Night (Nov. 2): Come talk with representatives of universities, colleges, professional programs and employers at this countywide event. 6-8 p.m. at J.R. Tucker High School.
  • Challenger Day (Nov. 8): Registration deadline extended. Challenger Day gives students with intellectual and physical disabilities a chance to play baseball and enjoy an indoor training facility. The 2022 event will be a little different than past years. While the fun won’t change, because this year’s event falls on a student holiday (Election Day), HCPS isn’t able to provide transportation for students. To attend, families need to register and provide transportation for their child. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The registration deadline has been extended! To attend, register online by Nov. 3 at 4:30 p.m.
  • Countywide town hall meetings: The Henrico School Board will hold two countywide town hall meetings in coming months. Both meetings will take place at 6:30 p.m.

    • Quioccasin M.S. (Nov. 30): (hosted by Marcie Shea, Tuckahoe District representative, and Micky Ogburn, Three Chopt District representative)
    • Elizabeth Holladay E.S. (Feb. 2): (hosted by Kristi Kinsella, Brookland District representative, and Roscoe Cooper III, Fairfield District representative)

Suicide is a major health concern for young people. Do you know the warning signs?

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, suicide is the second leading cause of death among people between 10 and 34. HCPS staff members are raising awareness about ways to prevent suicide and help reduce the stigma associated with suicide and mental health. The most important message? Suicides can be prevented and hope is possible for those in distress. Knowing the risk factors and warning signs for suicide can save lives.

The school division has caring, trained school-based mental health professionals available to discuss mental health concerns. HCPS school counselors, school psychologists and school social workers assess suicide risks and initiate support services and referrals to ensure access to mental health services.

  • Learn more about risk factors and warning signs when the HCPS Department of Family and Community Engagement hosts a virtual "Signs of Suicide" workshop Nov. 15 at 6 p.m.

Vote buttons

Nov. 8 election

Early voting is now underway for Virginia's Nov. 8 election. Find out more about voting in Henrico County, including absentee drop box locations and the Oct. 17 deadline to register. On the ballot this year is a $340.5 million bond referendum to fund public education projects in Henrico County.

Bond information is available in 15 languages, including Spanish, Arabic and Portuguese.

Remember, because many HCPS schools will serve as polling places on Election Day, Nov. 8 is a holiday for students.

Attendance matters

Did you know that students who miss two days of school a month are five times more likely to fall behind in reading, writing and math? HCPS encourages students to attend school all day, every day because attendance matters. Check out this short, animated video about why attendance is so important!
