Pocahontas High School nurse, Tracy Gholson, assesses tenth grade BMI each year. The Health and
Wellness Committee annually reviews and analyzed the BMI results of each school, and creates annual goals to improve the overall health and wellness of students. Although there was a change in the number of tenth graders from last year, the results are listed below:
51.1% of males in grade 10 were healthy or underweight. This number decreased by 4.7%. 20.2% of males in grade 10 were overweight. This number decreased by 1% from last year. 28.7% were obese. The number of students that are males in grade 10 that were obese increased by 5.6%.
50.6% of females in grade 10 were healthy or underweight. This number increased by 1.8%. 23.4% of females in grade 10 were overweight. This number increased by 4.8% from last year. 26% were obese. The number of students that are females in grade 10 that were obese decreased by 6.6%.
